Open scale forms

Scale charts are read much the same way as chord charts, the main difference is that you play a scale one note at a time.  The open string symbols (circles), indicate that the open string should be played as a note in the scale. This is an E minor pentatonic scale.

Roll your mouse over the scale chart to see the order in which the notes go from low to high.

First play the low E string open (don't fret it) then play the low E string fretted on the third fret with the third finger. Next play the A string open, followed by the A string fretted on the second fret, second finger. Next the D open etc...
